Our American landscapes and environmental resources are national treasures. We in Colorado know that as well as anyone in the country. Also here in Colorado, we have abundant resources of clean burning natural gas, making us a part of the shale gas revolution. This revolution is an opportunity for all of us to reduce pollution, reduce our carbon footprint, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, increase jobs, and ensure long-term reliable and affordable energy.

The health of the oil and natural gas industry is of key importance to the State of Colorado. Colorado ranks fifth in the country in U.S. natural gas production and 11th in oil production. The industry supports over 190,000 Colorado jobs and provides $24 billion to the state’s economy. In addition to providing jobs that support communities across the state, Colorado receives a significant portion of its state revenues from oil and gas development, with over 95% of the severance taxes paid for by the industry. The oil and natural gas industry is a key component to rural values, lifestyles and economies and help keep those areas growing and thriving. It is critically important that Colorado has a welcoming environment for energy investment.
