Red Tie, Green Heels - by Tisha Conoly Schuller

COGA President & CEO Tisha Conoly Schuller shares her
thoughts, ideas and insights about the oil & gas industry in
Colorado and beyond

Every Colorado Operator Has a Stake in the Success of COGA’s Baseline Water Program

Tisha Schuller  1/16/12

As I travel from public meeting to public meeting across eastern Colorado, the number one concern I hear from the public is protection of our groundwater. Colorado operators are confident in our best management practices and operations that protect groundwater, but the public wants that protection demonstrated.

And so, the Colorado Oil & Gas Association (COGA) has developed an industry-led voluntary baseline groundwater quality sampling program to exhibit that drilling operations are safe and do not compromise the quality of Colorado’s important water resources. This program is the first statewide voluntary groundwater quality monitoring program for oil and gas operations in the nation!

Our goal is 100% participation. If your company hasn’t signed up, we want you, and all Colorado’s operators need you. Please join.

We currently have 90% participation of companies who drilled wells in 2011, but in order for this program to be meaningful to a landowner or community, they want to know that the operator drilling in their area is participating.

Within a year, we will nearly double the existing groundwater protection data available in the state of Colorado from the 10 year water sampling program in the San Juan basin. Colorado’s oil and gas industry will have the first state-wide data set demonstrating groundwater protection in the country.

Please join and help Colorado’s oil and gas industry meaningfully engage in showing our communities that our operations can be conducted in harmony with environmental protection.  Thank you!
