Colorado: Oil & Natural Gas Resource Guide

This industry is a pillar of our state's economy, working with regulators for years to implement comprehensive oil and natural gas rules that are arguably the toughest in the world. Our top priority in that effort has been and will always be safety. Protecting our employees, the communities where we operate and the air, water and lands that we all value as Coloradans.

COGA Resources

Colorado has a plentiful and diverse energy resource mix including coal, wind, solar, oil, and an abundance of natural gas. Our state is one of the leading producers of oil and natural gas with several major basins. Colorado has a long history with oil and natural gas production and is regarded as a leader in developing sensible regulations that promote the safe and responsible development of energy.

Don’t Count Out The U.S. Oil & Gas Industry Just Yet
Jude Clemente is a Principal at JTC Energy Research Associates, LLC.
"On one hand, the energy transition is real and here to stay. On the other hand, there are 280 million cars on the road in the U.S. today, 279 million of them running on oil, and the average lifespan of a vehicle is 12 years,"

The reality is that even as we increasingly embrace renewables, oil & gas will remain essential for much longer than some are telling you.

We must go honest to 'go green'
Scott Tinker is a professor and the director of the Bureau of Economic Geology at The University of Texas at Austin.
The Biden administration represents itself as following science with regard to energy policy, yet it presents a simplistic clean and dirty energy narrative with the obvious solution to get rid of fossil fuels and “go green.”

Unfortunately, this narrative is naïve, expensive and misleading. It will harm U.S. energy security, the economy, the environment and the impoverished.

If You Want ‘Renewable Energy,’ Get Ready to Dig
Mark Mills is author of the recent report, “The ‘New Energy Economy’: An Exercise in Magical Thinking.”
“Renewable energy” is a misnomer. Wind and solar machines and batteries are built from nonrenewable materials. And they wear out. Old equipment must be decommissioned, generating millions of tons of waste.

The International Renewable Energy Agency calculates that solar goals for 2050 consistent with the Paris Accords will result in old-panel disposal constituting more than double the tonnage of all today’s global plastic waste.
