About COGA

Mission Statement

To be the unified political and regulatory voice for the oil and natural gas industry in Colorado, and to support our members through advocacy, partnerships, education and stakeholder engagement. 

Vision

A thriving, innovative and respected oil and gas industry in Colorado that embodies the values of our communities, prioritizes the protection of our environment, and provides the natural resources that advance our society.

Values

At COGA, our mission and the work of our members is guided by a series of shared agreements that reflect our commitment to the highest standards when it comes to responsibly developing our state’s natural resources, protecting the environment and the communities where we live and work, and creating a safe, sustainable workforce where all Colorado residents are welcomed and their voices are valued.

I. Legislative, Regulatory, Legal Strategy

Goal: Proactively engage elected officials and external stakeholders to address policy, regulatory and legal issues, resulting in public and political support that allows COGA members to access and develop resources. 

Strategies to fulfill this goal by 2022 include:
  • Influence rulemaking with thorough and transparent agency engagement. 
  • Strategic employee engagement, leveraging member expertise in both technical and political processes.
  • Working with both local government and state government elected officials, providing resources, best practice and political support.
  • Maintaining strong advocacy in courts.

II. Member Engagement & Industry Outreach

​Goal: Greater member satisfaction and value, achieved through meaningful member contributions, professional growth opportunities, motivated employees and diverse stakeholder engagement.

Strategies to fulfill this goal by 2022 include:
  • Employee engagement through committees, workgroups and task forces to assure member-driven outcomes.
  • Providing members with a continuum of opportunities for networking, education and professional growth.
  • Using strategic partners to fulfill joint projects and initiatives that support shared outcomes.
  • Ongoing growth of the annual Energy Summit, further positioning the event as the premier industry conference in the region and nation.

III. Public Education & Community Outreach

Goal: Improved public understanding of oil and gas issues, and increased trust and stability, by establishing COGA as a credible and fair resource, holding media accountable and leveraging third-party champions.

Strategies to fulfill this goal by 2022 include:
  • Continuous content development that reaches a broader audience and engages a diverse range of partners in shared messaging.
  • Develop employees, community partners and other third-party validators, identifying and disseminating resources to champion industry.
  • Seek opportunities to further establish industry as civic and business leaders.
  • Be a curator of resources, using traditional and online media to establish trust and credibility.

IV. Operations

Goal: A mission-driven, sustainable organization, that continuously demonstrates and maintains the highest level of member confidence and investment.

Strategies to fulfill this goal by 2022 include:
  • Rigorous financial management to assure resources are directly connected to goals within the strategic plan.
  • Grow membership and stakeholder investment to further diversify and enrich community of members and supporters.
  • Provide opportunities for leadership development through COGA’s committee structure and board governance.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing program evaluation, continuously assessing member value and alignment of resources with strategic priorities.
