Session: The Art of Public Messaging –  How Do You Reach a Skeptical Audience?

Megan Schrader will explore the art of public messaging on this panel, addressing important questions and challenges. Where has industry lost its way in winning the hearts and minds of the public? What can it do to improve? Who are the pragmatic stakeholders on the other side of the issue and what do they think about our message? What can we learn from their examples? And perhaps most importantly, going forward, how can we effectively convey our message to a general public that may be pre-disposed against the oil and gas industry?

Session: The Intersection of Regulation and Technology

The regulatory environment in Colorado has shifted dramatically in recent years, placing Colorado on the leading edge of a regulatory space where public policy, technology and goal-setting have increasingly co-mingling in the regulatory process.  Case-in-point, Colorado’s emission control efforts have shifted where the availability of technologies have influenced rule-making decisions, and has diverted focus away from the ultimate goal of emission reduction.  Such approach – prescribing specific technologies – prevents operators from innovating and seeking alternative best practices and emerging technology to achieve reduction goals.  While technology and feasibility will always play a role, how does industry maintain steady focus on goals amid political pressures and competing agendas, and successfully defend their ability to be nimble and innovate their practices?  What are the lessons learned that may apply to future regulatory efforts?

Session: Impacts of the Crude Price War and COVID-19 - Who Survives in an Oversupplied, Low Commodity Price Environment?

With the failure of OPEC+ members to make a substantial cut to crude oil production, the forecast for crude oil prices remains grim as demand dries up across the world.  The crude oil and natural gas markets in North America are now faced with a series of unique and difficult challenges not seen in decades, if ever.  At the same time as crude oil and associated gas production is falling victim to a reduction in the price of crude oil, the spread of COVID-19 has disrupted both domestic and export demand of natural gas in North America and across the globe.  This session will provide a forecast of how long low price pain will endure, characteristics of operators who are most likely to survive and testimonial from individual operators who are navigating the choppy waters ahead.
