Director of Public Affairs

The Director of Public Affairs will support COGA’s government relations and public policy work to advance the responsible development of Colorado’s oil and natural gas industry. Reporting to the President and CEO, this position helps coordinate advocacy efforts, track policy developments, and engage with a variety of stakeholders to promote industry priorities. The role emphasizes policy analysis, relationship building, and legislative support, with some responsibility for external communications and coalition coordination.

Key responsibilities:

Government Affairs

  • Serve as the staff lead on COGA’s legislative committee, tax committee, political committee, and other workgroups.

  • Track, research, and analyze state legislation impacting the industry.

  • Develop advocacy materials, testimony, and policy summaries for internal and external use.

  • Support relationship-building with legislators, government officials, industry members, and stakeholder groups.

  • Attend legislative hearings, meetings, and events as needed to represent COGA.

  • Work collaboratively with allied organizations and business coalitions on shared policy priorities.

  • Manage COGA’s PAC, 527, and SDC.

Public Affairs

  • Contribute to the creation of fact sheets, newsletters, and educational materials to support advocacy efforts.

  • Assist in preparing publics statements, media responses, and member updates under the direction of the senior team.

  • Help develop and organize stakeholder meetings and industry events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 4-7 years of experience in legislative affairs, communications, and/or public relations.

  • Strong understanding of the Colorado General Assembly and legislative process.

  • Understanding of the Colorado oil and natural gas industry and regulatory environment preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing high quality content.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.

  • Ability to think strategically and proactively offer solutions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including attending events and legislative hearings as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $115,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, COGA offers company-sponsored benefits that include medical, dental, and vision insurance; employer contribution to individual retirement plans; employer-paid parking; reimbursement for personal cell phone use; and paid time off.
